Advanced Blast Analysis

Presented By:  Jim Wesevich, PE, SE,  Thornton Tomasetti

Abstract:

Occupied pre-engineered metal buildings are prevalent in petrochemical and industrial facilities that can be exposed to various potential blast hazards, such as vapor cloud explosions.  This presentation demonstrates the benefit of using nonlinear finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics over more traditional single-degree-of-freedom analysis techniques in reducing the anticipated building damage from external explosion hazards.
